If you clean your heat pump filters regularly, you are doing something useful. But there is more inside the unit than the filters, and that is where the difference between a quick clean and a service comes in
What the filters do
They catch dust before it gets further into the indoor unit. As they collect dirt, they need attention to keep air moving properly.
Follow your model’s instructions. Some filters can be washed and others need different care. Let washable filters dry as directed before fitting them again.
What is behind them
The coil, fan and drain can need attention even when the filters look clean. Grease from a nearby kitchen is one example of something that can build up beyond the filter surface.
A service can include checking these areas, cleaning as needed, looking over the outdoor unit and checking how the system runs. What is required depends on the type and condition of the unit.
Tell us if something has changed
A persistent smell, indoor drip, new noise or weak airflow is useful to know about before the visit. It may need fault finding or a deeper clean beyond a routine service.
Ask what the service includes, especially when comparing prices. A filter wash and a more thorough clean are different jobs.
